The roof of a three-storey house in Nottage Crescent was set alight by lightning.
Four fire engines attended just before 2am this morning.
Crews found the roof well alight and the first floor smoke logged.
Six people were evacuated from the property and were cared for by the Red Cross.
All six - two adults and their four children - are safe and well.
No-one was injured in the fire.
The fire was extinguished at 4am.
