A COLCHESTER hospital department has been nominated for a national award.

Colchester General Hospital’s stoma care department has been shortlisted for the Colostomy Association’s Purple Iris award.

They will go up against Princess Elizabeth Hospital in Guernsey, Maidstone Hospital, in Kent and Aberdeen Royal Hospital for the title.

Colchester’s nomination praises the team for its willingness to provide as much help and support as needed, as well as treating their patients with respect and dignity.

The winner will be revealed at the association’s tenth anniversary celebrations which take place next month.

The association’s general manager Susan Hale said: “With almost one in every 500 people of all ages requiring stoma surgery, adjusting to life post-op can be challenging, so receiving high quality care and support can make a real difference to their lives.

“The Colostomy Association is proud to recognise stoma care departments, such as Colchester General Hospital, that go the extra mile for their patients.”
