CAMPAIGNING parents are calling for Essex County Council to review cuts to its home-to -school transport policy.

It has decided that from September, children starting at secondary school will only get free transport to their nearest school, instead of to any in their catchment area.

Some parents argue this will leave them out of pocket to pay for children's travel to their catchment schools.

The Labour group has tabled a motion at the council’s annual meeting being held today.

The motion, moved by Julie Young, Labour group leader and county councillor for Wivenhoe St Andrew, calls for Ray Gooding, the councillor responsible for education, to consider awarding discretionary payents to support parents for the coming school year.
