An American descendant of the famous Kellogg family has been surprised with a trip to Braintree to walk in the footsteps of her ancestors.

Cecilia Kellogg, 21, who is from Michigan, is currently studying in Ireland and will travel to the town on Saturday as part of a trip to London with friends.

Her ancestors, who founded the corn flakes company brand we know today, have their roots in Braintree Cecilia’s tenth great-grandfather, Martin Kellogg, was born in Great Leighs in 1595, later lived in Hoppet Lane, Braintree and was married and buried at St Michael’s Church in Braintree.

He had eight children, one of which was the first Kellogg to immigrate to America.

Cecilia, who is in her last year of university studying business administration and community leadership, is looking forward to seeing her ancestor’s home - the former Angel Inn, in Notley Road.

She said: “I am beyond excited, I never thought I would be able to visit a place full of my own family history.

“I feel like this is an opportunity that not many people get to have in their lives and I am so lucky to experience this."
