Fire crews were called to help a man who had collapsed on a roof.
One crew from Wickford and a crew with an aerial ladder platform from Chelmsford attended the scene in Runwell Road, Wickford shortly after 12.30pm today.
A fire service spokesman said: "Firefighters were called in by the ambulance service to get a man safely down from a third storey roof.
"The man, believed to be in his 20s, had collapsed after being taken ill.
"Crews used the ALP to bring him safely down to the ground where he was left in the care of the ambulance service."
