Shoppers flocked to a charity shop on its last day to thank a band of women who set it up.

Witham District and Lioness Club opened their Trash and Treasure Trove store in empty premises at the Grove Shopping Centre, Witham, in January last year.

It only opens on Saturdays and the aim was to raise money for different charities every week, most of them small organisations.

The shop was originally only meant to be open for a fortnight but has raised more than £14,000 in a year.

The shop closes today to make way for a new tenant.

However, the Lionesses still want to run a monthly stall to keep raising money.

JoAnn Williams, from the Lionesses, said: “Our last day has gone tremendously well."
