A LORRY driver was taken to hospital with serious injuries after his vehicle overturned on the A12.

The white articulated lorry overturned between junction 22 on the southbound carriageway near Witham at 3.50pm and skidded into the barriers.

A rapid response vehicle, ambulance crew and the air ambulance were called to the scene and took a man in his 30s to Broomfield Hospital with leg and chest injuries.

The northbound carriageway is now open but southbound remains closed for the recovery operation.

UPDATE

The A12 is still closed.

At 5.45pm, Essex Police tweeted that the road would be closed for between four and six hours.

A diversion is in place through Marks Tey with the A120.

UPDATE 10pm

Essex Police has said the southbound carriageway of the A12 will be closed until the early hours of tomorrow morning.
