There will be no primary school places left in Halstead by September 2017 if a new school building is not built as soon as possible, it has been warned.
Jon Smith, headteacher at Holy Trinity Primary School, in Beridge Road, feared that the school would be at breaking point within two years unless Essex County Council builds a new school in the town or extends an existing one.
Applications for places at the primary school in September ended last Thursday and Mr Smith said there will be double the amount of parents vying for the amount of places.
By Christmas, 40 parents had asked for one of the 30 spaces available.
At the moment, the school has just three empty spaces - one in reception and two more in Year Two.
Last year, 61 parents applied for just 30 spaces and once siblings had been allocated, there were just 13 spare places left.
