HOLOCAUST victims were remembered at a poignant ceremony on Clacton seafront.

Council leaders and residents joined members of the Colchester and District Jewish Community group for the special tribute.

More than 50 people gathered at the Sunken Rose Garden, in Marine Parade West, on Tuesday morning.

Tendring Council has been running the event for the past nine years as part of nationwide events to pay tribute to Holocaust victims.

Council vice-chairman Fred Nicholls said: β€œI was there to represent Tendring Council and the whole community, and share in the event alongside members of the Jewish community.

β€œIt is all about learning the vital lessons from what happened in the past and making sure that nothing like that ever happens again.”

Prayers were led by John Gottesman, of the Colchester Synagogue.

A poem was also read out, which had been written by Holocaust survivor Dora Love, who had previously attended one of the ceremonies at Clacton and died three years ago.
