Plans to transform a derelict pub into flats have been recommended for approval despite the efforts of a 170-member opposition group.
In June, proposals were lodged to change Oxford House, in Upper Holt Street, Earls Colne into two self-contained flats.
The plans to convert the ground floor of the conference centre and reception rooms, which used to the the Carved Angel pub, led to fierce opposition from the Reclaim The Carved Angel campaign group.
As part of the opposition campaign, more than 30 villagers have sent in objections to Braintree Council, urging them to turn down the proposals.
