A brightly painted play centre is set to undergo a make under if plans to turn it into flats are granted.

John Clarke from JPJ Installations Ltd has submitted plans to turn the Kids Playhouse, in Trinity Street, Halstead, into six apartments and a shop.

ADA Architects, who have been chosen to redesign the building, made the decision to limit the number of bedrooms to one in each apartment due to the lack of on-site parking.

A design and access statement read: “This proposed development revitalises a building that has struggled to find a practical use since its days as a cinema.

“The development will maintain the local landmark position as a familiar gateway approach to the Halstead town centre and strengthen its role as part of the conservation area in which it sits."
