A council is concerned that plans to turn a former run-down pub into flats could create an accident blackspot.

Proposals are in place to change Oxford House, in Upper Holt Street, Earls Colne, into two self-contained flats.

A planning application was submitted to Braintree Council in April to convert the ground floor of the conference centre and reception rooms, which used to be the Carved Angel pub, into flats and to build a detached two-storey house in the grounds of the car park.

According to the plans, access to the house will be via Earls Colne Parish Council has asked Essex County Council’s Highways department to look into the proposed access to the flats off Tey Road before a decision is made, due to safety concerns.

Councillors raised concerns that the proposed access point created a dangerous manoeuvre.
