Charity trustees are hoping to submit a planning application for a new community centre in Halstead after Christmas.
The Halstead Community Centre Charitable Company, which is leading the project to replace the Senior Citizens Centre in New Street, have signed up with an architect, who has now drawn up draft plans.
The company hope to meet up with the architect again in a fortnight to draw up more detailed plans, which they hope to display at a public exhibition before Christmas.
Jackie Pell, chairman of the trustees, said: “We have just got very basic plans to start off with, it’s like putting boxes together.
“When we come up with firmer plans, we are then going to show councillors and then the businesses that will be using it before putting it before residents.
“We want to put in a planning application after Christmas."
