Shopkeepers at a popular Halstead store are celebrating serving the town’s shoppers for a quarter of a century.

The Wisebuy Variety Store, in the High Street, originally opened in Bridge Street in October 1989, before moving to its current site in 1996 and extending a butchers to become what it is today.

Original owners June Pearce and Ray Brown have since retired and the shop is now jointly managed by Mr Brown’s daughters Louise Sutton and Andrea Mortier and Mrs Sutton’s husband Sean.

As part of the 25-year anniversary celebrations, the shop front has been given a makeover and new signs have been painted on the delivery van, funded by the Gazette.

The store delivers 600 newspapers daily to Halstead in 26 newsrounds and 18 on Sundays, with two rounds delivering in Gosfield.

Mrs Sutton, 46, said that the delivery boys and girls were the “cornerstone” of the business.
