PLANS to more than triple the size of a future housing estate in Lawford have been branded as completely unsuitable for the village.

In the detailed list of where more than 12,000 new homes will be built in the Tendring district, land off Bromley Road, Lawford, has been marked out for 360 houses.

In December 2012, developer Rose Builders mooted plans to build 100 homes on the site, along with a car park for the primary school and new offices for Lawford Parish Council.

But the latest draft of locations for housing in the new Local Plan puts forward a larger area of land to make way for 360 homes.

David Shearmur, who lives in nearby Grange Road, said: “It’s a bit much.

“Personally, I came to accept there would be some building there.

“But 360 homes is like a new village there.

“I think people will be screaming about it. It seems to be absolutely unsuitable."

But Carlo Guglielmi, Tendring Council’s cabinet member for planning, said the area was suited to take the extra homes.

“It ticks all the boxes, it’s a sustainable location,” he said.

It is hoped the locations for the new housing sites will be agreed by November and go out to public consultation over Christmas to January.
