Plans have been officially submitted to reopen public toilets in Halstead.
Halstead Town Council have applied to Braintree Council for planning permission to refurbish the toilet block, in Chapel Street, by moving internal walls, modernising the layout and creating three new doors.
The toilets closed in 2005 due to a cost-cutting measure but came back on the council’s agenda last year following requests from residents.
The Gazette reported last month that the town council is looking at a bill of up to £4,000 for surveying the toilet block, creating building regulation drawings and preparing tender documents.
This will all be spent before it can be decided whether the refurbishment can go ahead.
The work is being carried out by Duncan Clark & Beckett chartered architects.
