NEW lifts at Manningtree train station could be installed by 2015.
At the moment, the only way to cross platforms is to use steep narrow stairs to access the subway. For those who cannot use the stairs, the only alternative is to wait for a station worker to escort them over the track.
Officials have to wait until the tracks are clear before moving a passenger across the tracks, which can take up to an hour and result in people missing connections.
Tendring Council gave the plans the green light in May.
At a meeting of Mistley Parish Council on Tuesday councillor Richard Horlock said: “The Manningtree station lifts are meant to be going in by 2015.”
A spokesman for Abellio Greater Anglia was unable to confirm a time frame for the work.
