A primary school has been told that it needs to improve following an inspection by Ofsted.

Heybridge Primary School, in Rowan Drive, was inspected last month.

Inspectors found that all areas of the school, including the achievement of its pupils, the quality of teaching and the leadership and management of the school, required improvement, although added that pupils felt safe and secure and had made progress in reading.

It had been placed in special measures in 2011 but was later raised to satisfactory in September 2012

A spokesman from the school said that the school had taken the comments from Ofsted onboard and was pleased with the positive comments, which highlighted strengths such as key skills being taught well to help pupils progress in reading and reception pupils making good progress with the help of well planned activities.

They added: “We are aware of the areas that require improvement and we have already begun work to put them right."
