TWO community projects are celebrating after receiving a huge cash boost.

The Mistley Maltings Trust has decided to donate £50,000 to the Mistley Village Hall Committee and £25,000 to Mistley Cricket Club’s pavilion roof appeal.

The village hall project involves creating a front lobby, building public toilets and a private shower room and toilet for the kids club while increasing the storage available and was put together by the parish council, Mistley Kids Club and the village hall management committee.

Parish council chairman Martin Rayner said: “Not only will the hall have a new entrance lobby but there is space for us to build a public accessible toilet so that users of the play areas, sports fields and our open spaces can use it too.

“Thanks to the Mistley Maltings Trust grant this work can start as soon as the children go back to school.”

Mistley Cricket Club chairman Jack Jiggens said: “We will use the money for a new roof on the pavilion and although we still need to find the other half from somewhere it is a great start"

Trust spokesman Peter French said: “The revamped hall will have more open facilities which is a credit to the vision of the hall committee and Mistley Parish Council.

“The award to the cricket club will allow them to finish their pavilion scheme far quicker. It is fast becoming the centre for many young people with an active programme for men’s and women’s teams which the trustees thought were particularly important.

“Trustees are in conversations with the Mistley Parish Hall and the Hub in Manningtree to find ways of working with them.

“In addition a grants fund for small volunteer groups working with young people has been established and will be distributed later in the year.”
