Action to be taken over litter on railway line

RUBBISH-strewn embankments near a mainline railway station are a continuing eyesore and harbouring rats, it has been claimed.
Litter is building up at the embankments and alongside the platforms at the station, and blocking a water course alongside the viaduct between Highfields Road and Chelmer Road,leading to rats and the risk of flooding, say councillors Bill Rose and Ron Ramage.
Network Rail, which is responsible for keeping the areas tidy, will now bring forward maintenance work in light of the complaints.
