A car fire on the A12 closed the road for almost an hour.
Three fire crews and the police were called to the A12 between Hatfield Peverel and Witham at about 2.10pm this afternoon.
Crews from Witham, Colchester and Chelmsford were called to the north bound carriageway.
Wearing two sets of breathing apparatus and using two hose reel jets crews had the fire out by 2.35pm.
Donna Veasey, police spokeswoman, said a red Vauxhall Vectra pulled over to the side of the road and at the same time a collision occurred involving a silver Ford Puma which struck the barrier.
No injuries have been reported from the incident and the road was reopened by 3pm.
