Community champions have been recognised for resolving environmental issues in their towns and villages.
Braintree District Council launched its Community Champion Scheme in February 2007.
Chris Trim, Braintree Council spokesman, said the scheme encourages public participation in resolving environmental issues, "either by playing an eyes and ears' role (reporting problems to the Council) or through a hands-on approach' (tacking problems directly where practical)."
He added: "Community Champions have a vital voluntary role in helping us to deal quickly and efficiently with local eyesores."
On May 1 Nick Ezra of Kelvedon in Bloom, Jane Stokes of Deford Road, Witham, Valerie Ahern of the Templars Community Association, Annie Northfield of Witham in Bloom, Graham Eavery of Silver End (South) Tenants and Residents Association and Allan Waight of the Grove Residents' Association were handed certificates in honour of their efforts.
