Take-away plans are refused

Plans for a take-away near a secondary school were thrown out by Braintree District councillors.

An application by Mr Eswaran, of Stubbs Lane, Braintree, to turn a previous hairdressers, in Stubbs Lane, into a hot food take-away was refused as it was believed it would encourage school pupils from nearby Alec Hunter Humanities College to eat unhealthily.

Objections were also raised over the take-away making the area less pleasant to live in, increasing traffic in the area and giving rise to late night noise, disturbance and litter problems.

During Tuesday's planning meeting David Mann (Lab, Bocking North) said: "This recommendation doesn't get my support chair.

"I know the site quite well and I think this is just a cynical attempt to tap into the Alec Hunter market across the road and the Government is attempting to produce a healthy eating agenda for schools."
