MANAGEMENT at a swimming pool have apologised after customers were turned away at least three times because of a lifeguard shortage.

Jim Hood, of Green Lane in White Notley, went to the new Braintree Swimming Centre at Freeport at 9pm on April 4 and 11 and 3pm on Tuesday for the 50-plus session but all three sessions were cancelled.

The 61-year-old said he travelled a total of 27 miles for the wasted journeys.

"Three times in five weeks this has happened now. It is a new pool, it's wonderful and all the rest of it, except you can't go and swim," he said.

Bosses at DC Leisure, the firm that manages the pool, apologised to customers and said measures have been put in place to avoid it happening again.

Mark Taylor, contract manager at Braintree Swimming Centre, said: "We would like to take this opportunity to apologise for any disruption caused to our users and the local community."

This doesn't surpise me. We turned up on a saturday afternoon with the kids, only to find it closed for a party. The busiest day for taking the kids and it was closed. Ludicrous.

This new pool seems to be having lots of probs, I've tried to get times and prices from their website, which doesn't work, so I popped in to pick up a time list, and they'd run out! And they couldn't tell we when their website would be working??!!

I wonder whether they need to consider changing the management team for a new one. The current imcumbants appear not to be coping too well.
