YOUNG and old welcomed donkeys rides back to Clacton for the first time in 20 years.
Jayne Johns and Linda Moore took four donkeys out on the Martello beach for a trial run before the summer tourist season.
Mrs Johns, from Rayleigh, decided to bring the tradition back to Clacton after being given a donkey as a 40th birthday present by her husband, Martin.
She offered free rides to youngsters this week.
She said: “It seems to have gone down well and people were genuinely pleased to see donkeys back on the beach at Clacton. Everybody has been interested – the old people and the young.
“They think it’s lovely.”
Three-year-old Rebecca Lambert was one of the youngsters to enjoy a free ride.
Mum Debbie Lambert said: “I think it’s brilliant. I’m really pleased they’re coming back.”
Mrs Johns plans to start offering donkey rides again from April 5, depending on weather conditions. Each trip in the saddle will cost £2.
