A village is fighting to re-open its post office which closed following the suspension of its postmaster.

Castle Hedingham post office was forced to close after Ian Warren, its postmaster for three and a half years, was suspended in April over matters arising from an audit.

He lost his appeal against the suspension.

Although temporary postmasters were employed between April and June, after this period Mr Warren said he was left to find cover. He said although he had found cover, Post Office Ltd still decided to close the post office.

Mr Warren said he was “open-minded” about the situation and was trying to be optimistic about what he believes is a “long and sorry saga of a lack of communication from the Post Office.”

The parish council is hoping to arrange a meeting with Post Office Ltd to discuss how the post office in James’s Street might be reopened.
