RESIDENTS are being warned to check their food following mass power cuts.
Chelmsford Council has urged residents to check food stored in freezers and fridges, following the electricity substation explosion in Bishop Hall Lane last week.
The council's website offer residents a set of precautions to take, if they come home to find their fridges or freezers have broken down or the power has cut out.
The advice includes checking how long the power has been cut, checking the temperatures of the freezers and the condition of the food.
"Where frozen foods have completely thawed, food safety may have been compromised, particularly if the food has been thawed for some time. It is therefore recommended that these thawed foods are thrown away," it states.
Residents were also urged to check with their home insurance companies, to see if the cost of food or waste disposal is covered.
