A GROUP of security officers has won a best team award - for the second year running - in the South East round of the British Security Industry Association's annual security officer awards.

The team, which is based at Chelmsford's High Chelmer Shopping Centre works for security company VSG and has won the award for consistently meeting and exceeding the client's expectations - ensuring the safety of the shopping centre at all times.

The team is a three times winner of the Annual Town Centre Management Best Customer Service Awards and has received the BSIA national best team award for two years running.

Chris Darton, area manager for VSG, said: "The High Chelmer team is simply incredible.

" Last year its handling of a very traumatic incident in which a man committed suicide ensured that as little distress as possible was caused to those involved.

"The team performed commendably at the scene and as result the officers were praised considerably for their efforts."

Mick McDonagh, centre manager, added: "The team delivers a highly effective security provision, making a significant contribution to the environment at High Chelmer.

"They communicate often as a team in order to ensure the highest level of customer service and represent the centre by liaising with other organisations, such as the police, local businesses and charities, in order to positively influence community relations."

The team will now go forward to the national final in July.
