Two pub managers in Chelmsford are calling on their customers to take part in a world record wine tasting event.

Managers at The Ivory Peg in New London Road and The Thomas Mildmay in French's Walk are staging the event as part of their 19-day wine festival, which runs from Wednesday May 21 until Sunday June 8.

They are two of 690 Wetherspoon pubs across the UK that are hosting the synchronised wine tasting in an attempt to create a new Guinness World Record.

The wine tasting will take place at the pubs at 6pm on Wednesday May 21, with customers offered a free glass of wine.

Manager Sarah Elks of The Ivory Peg said: "This is a great opportunity for people to be part of a Guinness World Record attempt.

"All they have to do is come to the pub and enjoy a glass of wine at the same time as other customers in Wetherspoon pubs across the UK.

"The current world record stands at 5,100 tasters and I am confident that it can be beaten, with my customers playing their part."

During the festival the pubs will be serving six wines not previously available in the pubs, which will complement up to 16 additional wines.
