Residents were woken with a bang after a car ploughed in to their garden wall.

A section of Church Lane, near the college, was closed for around three hours from 6am on Sunday morning after a van smashed in to a wall at The Stables.

The driver suffered multiple injuries, which are not thought to be life threatening and was taken to Broomfield Hospital.

Steve Orran, who lives opposite where the crash happened called the emergency services.

He said: “I sleep at the front of the house and had just got up to make a cup of tea when I heard a really loud bang.

“I went to the window in time to see the car slide across the road and the driver stagger out.

“I went outside, dialled 999 and got him a chair from inside to sit on.

“There was an ambulance here, a lot of police officers and an incident investigation team.”

Mr Orran and his wife, Yvette, said speeding and parked cars were a real problem on Church Lane.
