Work has officially started on 59 new homes in Silver End.

The Boars Tye Road development takes inspiration from village founder, Francis Henry Crittall.

Keepmoat Homes has started work on the development, named Francis End in honour of the village’s founder, which will bring two, three and four bedroom homes to the area.

Of these 36 will be for private sale while 16 homes will be made available for affordable rent and seven for shared ownership with Home Group.

Mick O’Farrell, regional managing director for Keepmoat Homes in the south, said: “We understand the importance of the history of the area and our homes will be in keeping with the distinctive style Francis Henry Crittall first brought to the village in the 1920s.

“The homes respect the original masterplan for the village with roads built in straight lines and houses built in a regular form featuring the distinctive horizontal bars associated with art deco windows, as well as light coloured bricks and low pitched roofs.

“We are delighted to be bringing much needed new homes to Silver End that will continue Francis Henry Crittall’s vision of creating modern homes fit for modern life.”

The development will feature landscaped spaces and a play area, with the majority of homes available through the help to buy scheme.
