Kind-hearted supermarket staff came to the rescue of a group of 60 school children whose bus broke down whilst on a field trip.

The packed double decker had broken down during a day trip to Colchester Castle on Thursday, May 17, and the driver had managed to bring it to Tesco's car park in The Grove Centre, Witham.

Noticing the sweltering conditions on the bus, staff from the store invited the children, all students from Beacontree Primary School, Dagenham, inside and provided them with drinks and snacks as well as pens and paper to keep them occupied whilst they waited for a replacement vehicle.

Sheree Rankin, manager of Tesco in The Grove Centre, said: "We couldn’t leave those children on a hot bus, we were very happy to help."

Staff from the school have since expressed their sincere gratitude to the store, saying staff truly "saved the day" for the youngsters.

Later the same day, staff from Tesco also volunteered their time to help paint some fencing at Holy Family School, in Maltings Lane.
