A mother has thanked two quick-thinking carpenters who sprang into action when her son was hit by a car.

Kieran Bolton, 11, was knocked over and lucky to avoid serious injury after running into the road while racing his nine-year-old brother Reggie.

He had run into the road from between two parked cars near his home on the Glebe Estate, Braintree, which left the motorist with little chance of avoiding him.

Luckily Jack Pawsey and Vinny Haley, two carpenters with Greenfields Community Housing, were in the area and quickly called for the emergency services.

“Apparently I flew up in the air when the car hit me,” Kieran said.

“The first people to help were Jack and Vinny.

“One was speaking to me and the other gave me their jacket to keep me warm.

“My wrist was bleeding but didn’t hurt, and they gave me tissues for the blood and kept asking if I was warm enough.

“I remember that I kept telling them that I wanted to get out of the road.”

After Mr Pawsey and apprentice Mr Haley called an ambulance, they stayed with the youngster until it arrived, providing basic first aid and support while the emergency services were on the way.

Keiran was taken to Broomfield Hospital, where it was confirmed he had broken his wrist and bruised his leg in the collision. He was soon discharged from hospital, and sent home to recover from his injuries.

Last month, mum Tracey paid a special visit to Greenfields House, in Charter Way, Braintree, to express her heartfelt thanks for the duo’s actions to their manager Richard Mills.

She said: “Jack and Vinny were brilliant – I can’t thank them enough.

“And they looked after Reggie, too, who was by Kieran’s side the whole time.

“Of course, Kieran’s back to running around and not looking where he’s going.”

Following his accident, Kieran has also expressed his appreciation of the housing association workers who were so quick to help.

“I think Jack and Vinny should get a pay rise,” he said.

But Mrs Bolton has suggested Kieran offers to clean the carpenters’ work van instead.
