Taxpayers are being reminded to update their details, or risk losing discount on council tax.

A discount of 25 per cent is given to over 18s who are the only adult living at property.

At the moment, 19,000 people across the district receive the single person occupancy discount, however Braintree Council are conducting a review - meaning those who don't fill in the council's form risk losing it.

David Bebb, councillor responsible for finance and performance, said: “We’re obliged by law to review all discounts regularly.

"Sometimes people claim falsely and others forget to tell us that their circumstances have changed.

"If you receive a form, please make sure you check and update the details, sign and return it as soon as possible in order for us to verify your discount.”

Residents have until the end of April to return the single occupancy discount form - after this the deduction will automatically removed.

The form can be returned via post, or by emailing a photograph to counciltax@braintree.gov.uk.
