Why does Mr Ryland live in the past?
Witham has changed a lot since the days of a market in the High Street and Chipping Hill [Times, January 25].
When we have had the occasional markets in our precincts, they have been very successful and do not impact on the traffic flow through the town.
As most of our shops are in the precincts anyway, it makes it very convenient to have everything together.
The High Street seems to be for banks, estate agents, charity shops and the public houses.
The cost for extra signage would be saved, and everyone will appreciate a clear, clean Newland Street for the traffic.
