A record number of passengers passed through Stansted Airport in November.

More than 1.8 million passengers travelled through Stansted last month, almost 83,000 or five per cent more than November last year.

The total number of passengers in the 12 months to November 2017 rose to more then 25.9 million passengers, up 7.2 per cent over the previous year.

London Stansted’s commercial director, Martin Jones, said: “This is the busiest November on record and a strong start to Stansted’s winter flying schedule.

"Numbers of passengers have been boosted by the success of the first winter sun and ski flights from Jet2.com, and we’ve also had an impressive increase in cargo tonnage passing through the airport.

"With the construction of our new aviation skills college underway, and the start of enabling works for the first stages of a terminal transformation project to increase check in desks and improve passenger experience, these are exciting times."

November also saw a significant increase in cargo tonnage, with a 12.5 per cent jump to almost 26,000 tonnes.

The annual running total was 4.6 per cent higher at 263,000 tonnes.
