A web designer will run a half marathon in aid of a children’s charity.

Lisa Smith, of Little Easton, will be joining the hundreds of other runners taking part in The Royal London Parks Half Marathon to raise money for Witham-based charity, Brainwave.

On October 8 the 13.1 mile route will take in the capi- tal’s famous landmarks on closed roads and four of London’s eight Royal Parks - Hyde Park, The Green Park, St James’s Park and Kensington Garden.

Mrs Smith said: “I already knew of the great work that Brainwave Children’s Charity carries out.

“When I met Gerry through my business Activ Web Design and saw how tirelessly she works to raise funds and awareness, I wanted to do something to help.

“I decided to take on a hard challenge as I hoped it would encourage others to support and sponsor me on behalf of Brainwave and the lovely children they see.”

Brainwave offers therapy to children with disabilities and additional needs to help them achieve their potential.

Some of the children helped by the charity cannot see, walk, talk, hear, or feed themselves.

Others have to be fed through a tube in their stomach and can have more than 50 seizures a day.

Gerry Gould, community manager for Brainwave, said: “We cannot thank Lisa enough for taking part in this Royal London Parks Half Marathon to help to raise funds for our charity as we do not receive any Government funding and it costs us £3,500 per year per child to keep on our exercise therapy programmes.

“Everyone at Brainwave wishes her good luck and really appreciates her hard work and effort that goes into entering such a challenging event.”

Ms Smith has organised a charity night at The Stag Pub in Duck Street on October 6 at 7.30pm.

Tickets are £10, including sausage and mash.
