Bubble tubes, lights and a dance floor are just some of the things on offer in a new sensory room in Braintree.

The new facility at Braintree Wellbeing Hub in Turnpike Place, Braintree, opened to the public on Wednesday.

It includes a heated water bed, bluetooth speakers, fibre optics, interactive bubble tubes, lights and dance floor.

A coffee morning and a ribbon cutting ceremony was held to celebrate the opening.

Braintree councillor Stephen Canning said: “This service will support people across the Braintree district, particularly those adults with learning disabilities, who may not previously had access to these fantastic and often life-changing facilities.”

The facilities were built by Essex Cares Ltd, a care and wellbeing company set up by Essex County Council in 2009.

Chief executive of Essex Cares Keir Lynch said: “We are delighted to be opening this new facility to the public.

“Sensory development is vitally important for people with learning disabilities.

“The new equipment will provide ways to engage with people who otherwise might have limited abilities to interact.

“We believe sensory experience can be a transformative process in helping every person to develop as an individual.”

Braintree Wellbeing Centre opens from Monday to Thursday from 9am to 4pm.
