A QUIRKY village event is returning again to raise money for children’s activities in the area.

The 154th annual Finchingfield Three Legged Race takes place on Saturday, September 9, between 1pm and 3pm, starting at the village green.

Old friends and new runners are all welcome, with all of the money raised going to FINCHE Youth Activities. The group is currently raising money to install a brand new multi-use games area in Finchingfield.

All pairs must come in fancy dress, race around the village drinking at all three pubs, then cross the pond twice without the use of the bridges.

To make things a bit more difficult, children are encouraged to pelt contestants with water bombs.

There are also two children’s races as well as stalls, food, drink, music and other entertainment.

Lee Rider, organiser of the event, said: “The race just keeps getting more and more popular and it’s looking like a record amount of runners this year.

“These type of events become more important as our small villages become more under threat from the reckless march to over develop our rural communities.”

Places will also be available on the day for a donation.
