A CHARITY has held the first of its concerts with more than 90 primary school children.

The BIG Sing Community Choir set up its charity The BIG Sing SOUL earlier this year and delivered the first of its concerts last Monday with children from Rivenhall Primary School and Kelvedon St Mary's Primary School.

The charity will bring tutors into schools and hospitals and work with disabled groups to to help those who would benefit from music.

The charity set up six school projects after Easter with two schools in Witham and four in Rayleigh, teaching ten songs at each school for an hour every week.

Sing tutor Amy Power has been leading the workshops each week.

She said: "One child has a speech impediment and stutters when talking.

"She volunteered to sing a solo on Brave and as she sung there was no evidence of the stutter - she found a freedom in singing that she had not experienced before. The teachers were in tears"

Founder Gemma Francis said: “We want to capture what we have created and take it to those who can’t come to us, giving more children an opportunity to sing motivating songs when they may not have considered it before and to enjoy the therapeutic qualities singing has."
