A SUCCESSFUL choir from Braintree performed at a prestigious venue in front of the Lord Mayor of London.

Members of the Braintree Male Voice Choir were invited to perform in front of the Weavers Guild of London at a ladies dinner curated by one of their singers Richard Humphries, who is this year's Upper Bailiff of the Worshipful Company of Weavers.

Mr Humphries said: "I’ve had to take this year off singing with them as my London schedule currently takes up all my time, so it was a great opportunity for them to entertain the Lord Mayor and my invited guests and give such a special performance.

“It was a great highlight of my textile career of 51 years to hold this city dinner and it was a privilege that the choir were able to entertain us at the prestigious Grocers Hall.”

Around 100 guests watched the choir's performance.

Bob Waters, chairman of the choir, said: "It was a special occasion for us and to sing in front of people in full evening dress bedecked with their chains of office was quite something.

“We had our annual spring concert only four days before so we were rehearsing for both events at the same time."

The group's next concert takes place on Saturday, June 10, in Gosfield.
