PARENTS of a boy who had an aggressive form of cancer are appealing for £192,000 to send him to America for treatment.

Jacob Jones, from Braintree, has been fighting high-risk neuroblastoma since he was two.

Despite treatment, he relapsed in April 2016.

Jacob, now four, from Browning Road has been receiving additional chemotherapy and radiotherapy since then.

Whilst recent scans confirm there is no evidence of disease, the risk of Jacob relapsing again is high, and the chance of surviving is very low.

His grandad, Vic Bojan, said: "He has been through a lot of trauma, we have had times where he has been on medication over Christmas and has had to be woken up every four hours.

"He has been through an awful lot, but thankfully he hasn't felt any pain.

"He has lost his hair but it doesn't seem to have bothered him, he is resilient and he has been amazing."

Jacob has been staying at Great Ormond Street Hospital and has just completed four weeks of radiotherapy at University College London Hospital.

His dad, Adam Bojan, and mum, Kerry Jones, said: “To hear the consultant speak about Jacob needing chemotherapy, high dose chemotherapy, surgery to remove the main tumour, radiotherapy and immunotherapy was all too much to take in.

“In those early days we just couldn’t accept what was happening to our little boy."

Jacob, who attends John Ray Infant School, was diagnosed with an aggressive paediatric cancer.

A swelling around his ear and jaw was at first diagnosed as an infection.

When Jacob’s immunotherapy comes to an end in July, there will be no further treatment options for him in the UK.

Knowing that a further relapse could prove fatal, his family discovered the Bivalent Vaccine clinical trial at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York to continue his therapy.

His first lot of treatment was initially successful, and he was declared all clear in December 2015.

However he relapsed again after the family found a lump on his neck.

He has defied the odds but remains happy.

His grandad said: "Many have commented on Jacob's lovely smile.

"Despite all the horrible times he has had, he's almost always got a smile on his face."
