LUCKY pupils were treated to a visit from a comedian and children’s author as part of a book festival.

Julian Clary and illustrator David Roberts made a visit to New Rickstones Academy in Witham on Friday to talk about their book series — The Bolds.

They visited the school as part of the Essex Book Festival, which runs throughout March.

Pupils from seven primary schools including Silver End, St Peters in Coggeshall and Beckers Green Schools, were all invited for the presentation.

Julian and David then spoke with the pupils and signed copies of the books.

Around 226 children and staff attended the event.

The books tell the story of Mr and Mrs Bold and their two children who are hyenas.

Sam Weatherley, from the school, said: “We ran a morning and afternoon session and invited children from seven primary schools to visit the academy.

“They listened to Julian read from one of his book series, The Bolds, while his very talented illustrator David Roberts brought the characters to life by drawing them for the children to see on the big screen.

“Julian also did a question and answer session with the children before signing books.”

The event was organised by Lettings Co-Ordinator Elke Biss and Just Imagine Story Centre.
