A SCHOOL held a quiz night to raise funds for a pupil battling with leukaemia.

Charlie Corbett, 14, was diagnosed after he started getting a pain in his jaw in October.

Despite undergoing intensive treatment for acute leukaemia, the Maltings Academy pupil wants to raise money for the Teenage Cancer Trust and CLIC Sargent, and make survival kits for children with cancer.

The kits include DVDs, puzzles, snacks, stress balls and more.

Each box costs about £60 to fill, so Maltings Academy in Witham held a fundraiser.

Staff at the school have already managed to fill five boxes.

Charlie's Army, set up by Charlie's mum, Lisa, held their first fundraiser on Thursday, March 23.

The quiz night at the school, organised by teachers, had a turn out of more than 50 people and raised £500.

Mrs Corbett said: "On behalf of all at Charlie's Army, thank you very much for your support.

"The money raised will make a huge difference to teenagers just diagnosed with cancer by letting them know that they are not alone.

"People care and as an army we can fight this disease together."
