CHILDREN held a special celebration of the life's work of one of the UK's best loved writers.

It would have been Roald Dahl's 100th birthday on September 13 and to celebrate, children at Great Bradfords Primary School, on Marlborough Road in Braintree, dressed up as their favourite Dahl book character for the day.

All the children got well into the spirit and there was Fantastic Mr Fox, Willy Wonka, Matilda the enormous crocodile, more than one Umpa Lumpa and many many more.

Each class was then asked to vote for their three favourite costumes.

The day was arranged by year six teacher Miss Simmons, who also arranged for 15 golden tickets to be hidden in the library, with everyone who found one getting a Roald Dahl book in exchange.

Pupils were also taught about the authors life and had a chance to read some of their favourite tales with their class.
