A GROUP of community spirited teenagers helped a primary school in refurbish their play equipment.

Fourteen youngsters who were all on a National Citizen Service course decided to help out Great Bradford's School by getting stuck in with some sanding and painting in the playground.

The group, who are year 11 pupils from schools in Braintree and Halstead, even decorated some flower boxes with music notes, flowers and wacky characters - before refilling them with fresh compost and seeds and flowers.

Leanne Cole lead the group in designing and planning the project themselves and the teenagers managed to acquire donations of paint, plants and bird boxes from local businesses.

Reception children from the school were fully involved all along the way and everyone had a great time despite the sweltering heat.

Lennie, a reception pupil, said: “They kept painting the shed, first it was quite good then it was really good.”
