RESIDENTS can learn how to become dementia friendly as part of a national campaign week.

Braintree District Dementia Action Alliance is inviting members of the public to become a dementia friend to mark Dementia Awareness Week, which starts on May 16.

Four free sessions will be available in Causeway House, organised by the Alzheimer's Society, running on May 16, at 10.45am and 12noon, and May 20 at 1pm and 2.45pm.

Volunteer Sian Brand said: “I’ve been a volunteer since January 2015 and I’m passionate about being a dementia friend champion and delivering these dementia friends information sessions.

"It gives you the chance to think about what it is like to live with dementia and think about the small things we can all do to make the lives of people with dementia and their carers better.”

The alliance was formed in October 2015 as part of Braintree Council’s initiative to make the district a more dementia friendly community.

You can meet the team in George Yard Shopping Centre in Braintree on Wednesday, May 18, from 9.20am to 1.30pm, where Essex Dementia Care will also be demonstrating a seated exercise class.
