Pupils at a Witham academy got some inspiration from a successful sci-fi author who overcame his own childhood reading problems.
Year Seven and Eight pupils at Maltings Academy, in Spinks Lane, heard how author Colin R Parsons turned his challenge into a passion.
The fantasy, sci-fi and supernatural writer gave a presentation to the two year groups before holding smaller workshops at the school.
English teacher Lesley Baker said: “Colin told students how he used to stumble over his words and they could relate to that.
“He showed them life is about having perseverance as well as enjoyment in your work.
“The workshops gave students an opportunity to create their own stories which we have developed in class to go on display.
“Colin thought they were amazing and loved their enthusiasm and excellent ideas.”
