A TEENAGER accused of throwing acid in a man’s face himself sought treatment for burns later that day, a court has heard.

Aarron Isaac, 19, of, Elverson Road, Lewisham, and a 16-year-old boy from Mitcham in South London, are on trial for the attack in Witham on August 8 last year.

Both teens deny a single charge of applying a corrosive fluid to victim Wayne Ingold with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.

Chelmsford Crown Court was told the 16-year-old, who cannot be named because of his age, threw the acid and later went to a London hospital with burns on his face.

The jury also heard how one witness described Mr Isaac boasting that he had carried out an acid attack and “got away with it.”

Martin Mulgrew, prosecuting, said Mr Ingold was “in the wrong place at the wrong time” as he collected his post from a communal entrance to flats in Bramble Road, Witham.

He said: “This is a case in which a wholly innocent member of the public had a corrosive liquid thrown in his face while he was going about his daily business.

“He suffered what can only be described as horrific burns to his face and neck. But for the fact he was wearing spectacles the fluid would have gone in to his eyes.

“It is the Crown’s position that these two defendants travelled from London to Witham, Essex, to carry out this attack.

“They were in the company of a third person, who remains at large.

“The motive is known only to those involved.”

Mr Mulgrew said the pair were picked up from outside Lewisham Hospital in a blue Vauxhall Sigma registered to Paul Adrian Harrison at about 7am.

He said a phone belonging to the 16-year-old had ordered a taxi to the hospital and texted and called a phone registered to Paul Adrian Harrison at about the same time.

A similar car was captured on CCTV arriving in Bramble Road at about 10.30am, where neighbour Kate Booker described two “unusual” men getting out of passenger seats before the car drove away.

Giving evidence, Mrs Booker said one of the young black men was carrying a blue carrier bag with a round object inside.

The trial continues.
