A retired council worker is hoping to win a national songwriting competiton with a 100-year-old poem written by his late grandmother.
John Hawkins, 69, of Notley Road in Braintree, has transformed two poems written by his gran over a century ago into modern country songs.
The poems were discovered by Mr Hawkin’s sister, Wendy Cummins, 70, of Galleywood in Chelmsford.
